Being female I never had to worry about declining an honor. What would happen if a man asked what the qualifications for certain officers were? Also, what if the qualifications were fulfilled, can you raise your name as a candidate?

Did Jesus preached to the dead souls of Noahs days?
by raymond frantz indid jesus preached to the dead souls of noahs days?.
in his first letter peter seems to imply that jesus immedaiately after his ressurection he preached to the dead souls of noah's days.in 1 peter 3:19,20 we read :"and in this state he went and preached to the spirits in prison, who had formerly been disobedient when god was patiently waiting in noahs day, while the ark was being constructed,in which a few people, that is, eight souls,* were carried safely through the water.".
the following post offers insight to these obscure verses ...(click the link).

I looked up the Apostles Creed in my Book of Common Prayer. The creed says that you believe God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord...suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell....I was taught that hell was separation from God. I believe it is Roman Catholic legend that he stayed in hell to preach and save previous generations so they could be resurrected. I don't understand the Noah reference.
I can't find the Nicene Creed. My browser doesn't let me copy and paste.
I was not at Jesus' side when he was in hell so I don't know what he did.

Sunday's NA meeting
by Pistoff inshe begins:.
i have never spoken before in a meeting, and i am nervous.
i am one week away from having 6 months clean.. at sunday nights meeting, millie spoke for the first time, and it made me consider again the merits and pitfalls of belief.. me, i have been in recovery since the mid 80s and have recently begun attending na meetings again, just to feel more sane and to be there for newcomers; i know how great it was to have people at meetings with time when i started going.. halfway through her sharing, she said:.

I am not an alcoholic. When I was in utterly excruciating pain, a doctor suggested I go so I was not at home. She said suffering people are suffering people. I only attended open meetings. is it not AA like my country right or wrong? This problem over overly controlling members and others is discussed more than alcohol, food, or any addiction. An atheist wanted to read the text and substitute "higher power" for "God," One woman had such a fit! We had to read it as written, she said. She came close to physically attacking him.
I know for certain that many Twelve Step people "take what you live and live the rest." It is not so much the written materials as people acting out.
When I started Twelve Step, I was very impressed. My impression from mass media was that AA helped 99% of the people. It helps very few. If you are one of the few, you are lucky. So much was Witness like. My heart would beat so fast. I wanted to run of the room. It is not for many people. They tell you you meed AA endlessly. You don't.

Is it a right or is it right?
by likeabird inin light of the recent posts about the little boy taken out of hospital in southampton by his parents and is now somewhere between france and spain, i started reading up some of the newspaper article links posted.
i was especially interested by the comments posted.. note my surprise, and yes horror, to see a large number of people supporting the parents decision.
how the parents are fully in their rights to do such a thing, going as far as to imply they 'own' their child, so they can do what they want.. i know this is a very sensitive subject and i'm probably opening a can of worms, but i think it needs saying.

I am in my sixties. When I was in high school, the ACLU and other groups were advancing the rights of older teens. Student newspaper editors were a huge group. I was an editor. We did a parody issue. I did not see the final version. The paper was seized by the Board of Education All students had to return their issue. Trucks came to remove the paper asap. I can see where a family court judge who routinely deals with teens might be impressed by an articulate teen. It is the flip side of the same coin. Recognize my autonomy to complete school but don't recognize my autonomy for blood. I would never allow it if I were a judge. My colleagues might demand that I recuse myself.
One option buys time for a child to become a mature adult. The other option is death. Resurrection is not part of the common law. I've changed a lot since high school. My music remains the same.

Is Faith Immoral?
by Coded Logic inwhen people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?
so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

Believers, JWs among them (tho I would not consider JWs believers given the absence of Christ, are not any more stupid or any other bad attribute. I believed the Witness doctrine as a child. Witnesses are so isolated. I recall when I first entered a church. The terror was real. If you have learned worldly views, be grateful. Lack of sophistication is not stupid. I was just thinking of how silly these threads are. It has been decades since I've met a real life person who takes the Bible literally. Decades. There is the urban/rural divide, too.
These continuing threads make me wonder if the WT is interesting at all. There is not much content here that would attract people. Plenty of content that would alienate newcomers. The title is so poorly worded. It reveals much by itself. I don't see much correlation between faith and morality. Morality itself is an awkward word for 2014. I believe that smiling and being nice while stating that I don;t believe for a few key reasons is more likely to convert someone. Education would make a big difference. My JW relatives were bright. I respected them as individuals.
Sometimes I wonder what RL people here witness.

AMATEURS using BAD METHODS: what possible expertise does the GB possess?
by Terry inlet's start with a very basic common sense question.. if you needed surgery would you go to a graduate of medical school who had been practicing for awhile,.
or would you go to an amateur who told you god would be telling him how to peform surgery?.
don't laugh.. it is a serious question!.

The student should be failed or drop the course like a hot potato. Perhaps she believed she was to convert the prof. back within the fold. My relatives would never think about the teachings. When Iwas young, I asked how the religion worked. They told me. I aked how we knew the presidents were chosen b/c, afterall, Roman Catholics believe the pope is selected by Holy Spirit. To me it was obvious that Bethelies were not worth much. All I heard at home were Bethel hypocrisy leaders.
I doubt that educated, cosmpolitan, and sophisticated people are drawn to the GB. I thought the Holy Spirit should increase the reading level of the ministerial servants in my KH.
One thing, Terry. It is massive. People know me well before I ever reveal my Witness past. I've had so many worldly people on the floor laughing so hard at the thought of me being a Witness. I re-enact my ten year old, knocking on a door, and asking with all sincerity of an adult, "Do you believe in eternal life."One woman was laughing so hard with her whole body that I seriously thought I might have to call paramedics. If they know neighbors slightly that are Witnesses, my description of the lies and control are rebuked. I stand my ground.
I flirt with Bethelies on the subway. Only men I flirt with. There is a sense of power doing it. Witnesses are basically Witnesses for emotional reasons. I can tell them about Son of Man forever and they will not believe. So many here were once like that. We should treat them with respect.

How many anointed disciples were in the 1st Lord's Meal?
by hardtobeme inaccording to the bible, none... all 12 partook of the emblems.
jesus told them to partake even thought they were not anointed with holy spirit yet.
they were anointed at pentecost.... and judas was present too according to luke 22:21.. watchtower says that luke's chronological order is wrong.

I read Judas was presenting during the meal. He may have left in the middle of the meal which would be bad manners. So many films done well show Judas at the meal. Harvey Keitel's Judas is present in The Last Temptation of Cross. The stories in the gospels about Judas don't add up. I have a feeling he stayed for the entire meal. He was close to Jesus and had excellent values. The gospels want to dramatize the tension between Judas and Jesus.

Unless there is an expres statute such as in CA, there is no duty to report crimes to the police. It takes pleading special facts for the WTBTS to be brought in as a party. It just can't sit there and be named successfully. The Conti case was extraordinary. The WTBTS had notice. It has deep pockets compared to elders. Simons acknowledged that Conti was rare. He clearly said he did not want routine pedophile cases. They can be won but the damages are minimal.
A judge will want to see some evidence. Not people who hate the WT venting on a forum. There is no way that Behel can know or police everything that happens in the field. Looseness with facts does not help. It only turns off normal people from supporting the apostate point of view. People don't like any religion trounced.
This worship of Rick Simons is disgusting. The man is a good lawyer. Hundreds of thousands of good lawyers are available.
